Resveratrol and Red Wine For A Healthy Heart

Find out the facts about resveratrol and red wine in a no nonsense way! Research is finding that resveratrol and red wine, and the main ingredient in red wine, which is resveratrol, may be healthy for your heart.

Throughout history, even in older cultures, it has been thought that red wine is healthy for you! Certain substances in the red wine are said to help increase the good cholesterol which protects
the arteries. This may actually prevent heart disease. This is from resveratrol and red wine. Of course, too much alcohol can be not so good for you. So, doctors are a bit leary to tell their patients to just start drinking! However, when some people hear that red wine can be good for your heart, they may think this is a great idea to start drinking red wine regularly! While doctors agree that the red wine is good for your heart, they are beginning to think it’s the antioxidants and resveratrol that is actually IN the red wine that gives the body and the heart a healthy boost.

Why is resveratrol and red wine healthy and good for your heart?

Polyphenols are an antioxidant that is in red wine. And one of the polyphenols is called resveratrol. This is the polyphenol that got scientists and doctors to begin looking at red wine, because it protects the blood vessel lining in your heart. Though they can’t prove it’s the actual alcohol in the red wine that gives these benefits, so, they can’t say that other liquors would be better or worse for you than red wine.

Resveratrol And red wine

There was a great study done on mice with resveratrol that proved to help the mice from obesity and diabetes. Both diseases are known for being very risky for heart disease. Just so you know, the dose of resveratrol that was given to the mice, if you were to take it, would be equivalent to 60 liters of red wine. That would be each day! I know I wouldn’t get anything else done if I tried to drink that much wine! However, studies have shown that resveratrol lowers the bad cholesterol as well, and this is good for prevention of damaging blood vessels. Reducing the bad cholesterol with resveratrol and red wine also helps to prevent blood clots.

Experiments dating back to the 1930s, conducted by Dr. Clive McKay at Cornell University, have shown that feeding laboratory animals about a third fewer calories than they would eat freely, without causing malnutrition, can dramatically increase their longevity.

Mice in this situation have lived four years longer than normal, a 40 percent increase. Moreover, they remain much healthier than their freely eating counterparts, showing an equally dramatic delay in the onset of age related diseases including a reduced incidence of diabetes, heart disease, cancer and other ailments.

The McKay trial has been replicated thousands of times with many other species including monkeys and dogs with the results continuing to demonstrate a significant correlation between calorie intake and lifespan.

CALORIE RESTRICTION IN DOGS

In May of 2002, the results of the experiment regarding caloric restriction on dogs were published in JAVMA (Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association).

The objective of the trial was to evaluate the effects of diet restriction on the lifespan and on markers of aging. 48 Labrador Retrievers were paired up and one dog in each pair was fed 25% less food than its pair-mate from 8 weeks of age until death.

The results showed that “compared to the control dogs, the food restricted dogs weighed less and had lower body fat content and lower serum triglycerides, triiodothyronine, insulin, and glucose concentrations. Median lifespan was significantly longer for dogs in which food was restricted. The onset of clinical signs of chronic disease generally was delayed for the food restriced dogs.”

RESVERATROL IS PROVEN TO MIMIC CALORIE RESTRICTION

The many health benefits associated with resveratrol have long been attributed to its ability to mimic the effects of a calorie restrictive diet. Research published in the June 3 issue of the online, open-access journal Public Library of Science One (PLoS One) established it as fact reporting the “striking transcriptional overlap of caloric restriction (CR) and resveratrol”

A team of international researchers found that low doses of resveratrol slowed the aging process in middle-aged mice and improved their overall heart health. Specifically, the results observed in the resveratrol-fed mice mimicked those often seen with caloric restriction — the practice of cutting 20%-30% of calories out of one’s typical diet in an effort to improve health and prolong life. Numerous studies have linked caloric restriction to a longer, healthier life.
What’s more, the study researchers discovered that resveratrol is active in much lower doses than previously thought. Until now, researchers believed that high doses of resveratrol — impossible to obtain by drinking wine — were necessary to ward off the unhealthy consequences of eating a high-fat, high-calorie diet.
“This brings down the dose of resveratrol toward the consumption reality mode,” study researcher Richard Weindruch, a University of Wisconsin-Madison professor of medicine and a researcher at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, says in a news release.
The researchers believe their findings provide strong evidence that resveratrol can improve one’s quality of life and call the idea of low-dose resveratrol supplementation “a robust intervention in the retardation of cardiac aging.”

RESVANTAGE Brand Resveratrol offers a low dose resveratrol supplement for dogs and cats now.

The makers of RESVANTAGE, a resveratrol supplement company have expanded their offerings to include a resveratrol supplement for dogs and cats so that these animals can enjoy the health benefits of a caloric restrictive diet without their owners having to actually restrict their diets. It’s a viable way to tap into the science of CR and its positive effects on healthy aging while avoiding the resultant loss in body weight of the animal and potential loss of nutrients that a CR diet might cause.

In November 2002, The National Cancer Institute wrote: a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory, “resveratrol may be an effective chemopreventive agent in three stages of the cancer process: initiation promotion and progression.”

Resvantage Canine and Feline is for both healthy pets as well as for dogs and cats with health issues such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular problems, fatty liver disease, hip displaysia, cognitive declines and other afflictions common with aging. There are numerous clinical trials showing the efficacy of resveratrol in lowering insulin resistance, reducing tumor incidence, breaking down fat in the liver, relieving the symptoms of arthritis and demonstrating it’s neuro protective action.

We seem to be getting a lot of comments about the free trial offers and the companies that offer them. Visitors to this blog seem to associate the free sample offers listed on the resveratrol free sample page with this blog and owner?

The vast majority of these offers come from individual marketing companies that are promoting their own products using the free trial method. The idea is to get people using their resveratrol products and then get them on autoship and a monthly credit card billing cycle.

Unfortunately, many of these companies that promote these offers seem to make it difficult for the users to recontact them and cancel any subsequent orders from being shipped and billed if they choose to stop. Consequently, you have some unhappy folks that took the trial, decided not to continue using their resveratrol supplements, but had an unpleasant experience or difficult time cancelling.

We did some research and found a reputable US based company, Market Health, that manufactures an extensive health product line, many of which are sold in brick and mortar stores, has been in existance for over 7 years and offers an iron clad hassle free 90 day money back guarantee on their products – AND offers a FREE trial for their resveratrol product called Resveratrol Select.

Unlike the free trial offers from other companies, Market Health actually provides an 800# and 24/7 customer service so customers can call and cancel at any time – no questions asked. This seems to demonstrate the confidence they have in their products and in their resveratrol supplement.

They claim that Resveratrol Select contains the equivalent amount of resveratrol found in 200 glasses of wine. In addition, their proprietary formula is fortified with Green Tea Extract, a natural antioxidant, to energize metabolism and help with weight loss.

They also include 2 free bonuses with the trial that you get to keep no matter what – an ebook with 71 weight loss tips, and a weight loss visualization audio. In addition, they include Free lifetime membership access to their results-based online fitness program. Another exclusive amongst the free trial offers available!

In all, we haven’t seen or found a better free trial offer on the market combined with a company that practices ethical business where consumers get real value and a real risk free offer.

Resveratrol never ceases to amaze researchers that study its properties and effects. A team of researchers from France at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology discovered that, in addition to the findings that resveratrol inhibits obesity and increases the life span of mice, it also seems to have a profound impact on endurance and overall energy levels as well!

In their resveratrol study, Dr Auwerx and his colleagues observed that mice given a resveratrol dose were able to run twice as far as the mice in the control group that were not supplemented with the resveratrol extract. In addition, the resveratrol infused mice had more energy charged muscles and a lower heart rate – mimicing the health states of top trained athletes!

Dr. Auwerx attributed these results mostly to the noticable increase in the number of mitochondria they discovered in the muscle cells of resveratrol supplemented mice.

Mitochondria are the organelles in the body’s cells that create energy. With more mitochondria, the supplemented mice were capable of burning additional fat and therefore inhibit weight gain and lowered insulin sensitivity, Dr. Auwerx said. The research team ascertained that the rodent’s muscle fibers had been restructured by the resveratrol treatment into the form more likely to exist in trained human athletes.

Whether this resveratrol study and others translates to increased endurance in humans that will mimic highly trained athletes metabolism is unclear at this point. Determining the proper resveratrol dosage as well seems to be a key factor, as some of the research involved high doses of the substance. In does offer compelling evidence that another positive effect of this remarkable substance may indeed give you that extra boost of energy to get through the day!
